February Faves
And a spooky vintage doll set I'd like you steer clear of...
Hiiii my friends! How’s everybody doing? I’m bewildered to report that I’m still not sleeping past 3am (week 5, what’s up?!), though I hope that by the time you read this I will a. have slept, and b. still be sleeping. Trying different concoctions and exploring different theories as to WHY every day- if you’ve got any experience in the field lmk! In the meantime, here are a few things that are bringing my soupy brain joy-
There is almost always a song playing in my head. Often, in our house, I will start bopping my head or moving my body, then point to my temple and tell Jesse the song I’m “listening” to at the moment. This week, the tradition has reliably been a. lock eyes, b. point at temple, c. shout DEBÍ TIRAR MÁS PHOTOS DE CUANDO TE TUVE!!!, d. apologize for the lack of diversity in my programming. I’ll move on someday but…..not yet.
It’s alllllmost jasmine season in LA! One of my favorite moments in local flora, it makes the streets smell like heaven. We have a jasmine plant in our yard that we’ve encouraged to climb up a trellis- bafflingly, it appears to be brown and dead at the base but looks healthy and covered in buds at the top. But the other day I looked up and realized that the plant had climbed, and flowered, at the top of the bare fig tree next to it and- I’m stunned. There’s a beautiful metaphor in here somewhere (“small” people seeing something “dead” and not getting it, the flowering is happening on a higher plane? something?") but like I said, I’m sleepy, so honey you tell me.
If you’re in/around LA and are hungry for good theater, I have to INSIST that you see SYLVIA SYLVIA SYLVIA at the Geffen Playhouse, playing now through March 8. Written by my dear friend Beth Hyland. it is beautiful and funny and moving and poignant. GO GO GO!
This description of what casting was looking for in a voiceover job-
Middle-aged woman possibly with a slight, unplaceable accent that makes the videos have a global feel- and what I wanted to submit:
Certainly unplaceable, wouldn’t you say?
I recently reordered the Negative Underwear sieve non-wire bra since I wore my last one all the way out, and it’s always the first one I reach for in my rotation. I found their sizing guide to be very accurate- I wear a 2! Speaking of which, I’m overdue for a trip to Nordstroms or wherever the oldest, straightest shooting broads are working these days, for a bra-sizing check-in. There’s no one I trust more in the world than a stern older woman who insists on coming in the dressing room with you while your top’s off so she can be sure you get the best fit.
I’ve been loving this song, Miffed It, and boogied to the radio playlist of the song for the entirety of my dinner prep the other night. Niiiiice and easy.
The other day I was on hold with health insurance for 45 minutes (it turns out I couldn’t pay my bill yet because I had to wait longer for it to be set up. so. good talk!) and was blasting my facebook marketplace finds off to non-consenting friends. I loved this antique bobbin shelf, these colorful candlesticks, and this vintage wall shelf, and hated this “first dance with grandpa” doll set. First question is, why?, second question is, huh?!!?
Love you all! Hope you’re taking care of yourselves, and that you’re dancing with Grandpa <3.
xx Olivia

re: jasmine
how bout how bout “we have to keep climbing until we get to the sun…. to bloom. In the sun.”
Forgive if you already tried, but for me magnesium (glycinate, the one that *won't* make you poop too much) before bed was excellent for sleeping better.
