Hello! I’m so happy you’re here. To those of you who are joining for the first time- welcome! To those of you who subscribed to the initial Honeypot- get over here cutie, I missed you!
A brief history: The Honeypot was a community newsletter that ran from 2018-2020. I started it when I was feeling stuck- waiting in the Chicago comedy purgatory of will The Theater ever hire me? and craving any semblance of creative control. What blossomed in this desperate valley was a collective where we shared feelings, reflections, and tips on how to navigate planet earth. Then in the spring of 2020, a raunchy, gorgeous essay got flagged by the PRUDES at *mailchimp*. I was blocked from my account and lost access to my mailing list, so I couldn’t even say where I had gone. Like so many other tender things, The Honeypot was swallowed whole by the pandemic.
Now, it’s three years later and we’re all just a little bit different. I caravanned my life from Chicago to Los Angeles at the start of 2021, fell in long-distance love in 2022, found a Craigslist house in LA with my boyfriend in 2023 (all just as easy as it sounds), and now here I am feeling a little bit…stuck! There is so much in my life that is so juicy, but with the pandemic, the strike(s), and some new-city question marks, I am often missing the connective tissue of community. In a career path that is so often defined by waiting, it feels both scary and exciting to be the one to issue an invitation, but I desperately believe in throwing the party you want to attend. So…
Hello! Welcome (back) to The Honeypot. Every Sunday, subscribers will get an email with writing from me and some featured contributors. If you are interested in contributing to The Honeypot (reflections! how to’s! best of’s! comics! etcetcetc!), you can submit a proposal here. All elements of the newsletter will currently be available with a free subscription- some content will eventually be exclusive to paid subscribers, but there will always be something for everybody.
Ok, I think that’s it! If you have any feedback for pieces you’d like to see, please leave a comment below. If you know anyone who you think would enjoy this, please let them know that we’re back! And if you have the number for anyone at *mailchimp*, please tell them I’d like to see them in my office ASAP.
xxoo, Olivia
